Privacy Policy

Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, display name, and password credentials (stored hashed, never in plain text). If you sign in through a third-party platform such as Facebook or Instagram, we receive the basic profile fields you authorize — typically your name, profile picture, account ID, and email address.

Content you submit. Links, text, images, events, plans, business details, saved items, and messages you send us through the site.

Connected social platform data. If you connect an Instagram, Facebook, or other social account — for example to claim a business profile or import posts you own — we access only the permissions you grant, which may include your account ID, username, profile details, and the public posts and media associated with that account. We do not request or store your social account password.

Publicly available content. MeanScoop indexes publicly posted content about local events and venues (for example, public social posts, public business listings, and public web pages) in order to build local event listings. This may include the public handle, display name, caption text, and media of the account that published the post.

Usage and device data. IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, referring URLs, and interaction events, collected through cookies and similar technologies. Approximate or precise location is collected only when you enable location-based features in your browser.

• Provide, operate, and personalize local discovery, search, and planning features.
• Create and maintain event, activity, and business listings.
• Authenticate you and secure your account.
• Verify ownership when you claim a business or creator profile.
• Respond to your support requests and send service-related notices.
• Measure and improve product quality, reliability, and relevance.
• Detect abuse, spam, and fraud, and enforce our terms.
• Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use data obtained from connected social platforms for advertising targeting.

We share personal information only in these circumstances:

• Service providers that host, store, monitor, or process data on our behalf under contract (for example cloud hosting, database, email delivery, error monitoring, and analytics providers).
• Publicly, at your direction — content you choose to publish, such as a public event, business profile, or shared plan, is visible to others.
• Legal and safety — when required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of MeanScoop, our users, or the public.
• Business transfer — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

We keep account information for as long as your account is active. Content and listings are retained while they remain relevant to local discovery. Usage logs are retained for a limited period for security and reliability purposes. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within 30 days, except where we must retain it to comply with a legal obligation or resolve a dispute.

You can delete your account and associated personal information at any time. Email privacy@meanscoop.com from the address on your account, with the subject line “Delete my data.” We confirm receipt within 5 business days and complete deletion within 30 days.

If you connected a social account, you can also revoke MeanScoop’s access from that platform’s settings (on Facebook: Settings & Privacy → Settings → Apps and Websites). Revoking access stops future data collection; to also delete data we already hold, use the email request above.

If you are featured in a listing built from publicly posted content and want it removed, email us with a link to the listing and we will remove it.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Submit requests to privacy@meanscoop.com. We do not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. You can control cookies through your browser settings and opt out of marketing email using the unsubscribe link in any such message.

We use encryption in transit, access controls, secret management, and least-privilege practices to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

MeanScoop is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

MeanScoop is operated from the United States. If you access the service from elsewhere, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country.

We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the effective date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice through the service.
